Rau'shee Warren (* 13. February 1987 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American professional boxer and former world champion of the WBA in the bantamweight . Among the amateurs, he was an Olympian in 2004, 2008 and 2012, world champion in 2007, and bronze medalist at the 2005 and 2011 flyweight world championships .

Amateur career

Rau'Shee Warren is considered one of the most successful amateur boxers in US history and is also the only boxer to have represented the country three times at the Olympics. Born in Westwood, Cincinnati , Warren began boxing at the age of six. In February 2004 he won the US Olympic qualification against Wiley McCanery, Diego Hurtado and Rayonta Whitfield, as well as the box-offs held in the same month with a renewed victory against Diego Hurtado. He then took part in March 2004 in the Olympic qualification of the American continent in Tijuana , where he achieved first place. He had prevailed in the tournament against the Argentine Nestor Narváez, the Venezuelan Miguel Miranda and the Mexican Raúl Castañeda . As the youngest US athlete and youngest boxer ever, he started at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , but lost his first fight against the Chinese Zhou Shiming , who later became a two-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion.

After the Olympics he switched from light fly to flyweight and won the US championships in 2005 and 2006 by beating Mohammad Siddiqui, Teon Kennedy, Aaron Alafa, John Franklin, Shawn Nicol and Oscar Venegas. He was also a participant in the 2005 World Championships in Mianyang , where he beat the Ukrainian Heorhij Tschyhajew , the Hungarian Dávid Oltványi and the two-time Russian European champion Georgi Balakschin and reached the semi-finals. There he was eliminated from the South Korean Lee Ok-sung with a bronze medal.

In 2007 he won the US championships again against Bruno Escalante, Timothy Ibarra and Aaron Alafa and also secured the gold medal at the 2007 World Championships in Chicago when he played against the Uzbek Tulashboy Doniyorov, the Mexican Braulio Ávila, the Philippine Asian champion Violito Payla, again against Georgi Balakschin , as well as against the Azerbaijani Samir Məmmədov and the Thai Somjit Jongjohor . In August 2007 he won again the US Olympic qualification with victories against Juan Leija, Qa'id Muhammad, Aaron Alafa and again Qa'id Muhammad, which he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There he lost again just 8: 9 against Lee Ok-sung in the first fight . After David Lee Armstrong , who recommended himself for the Olympic Games in 1972 and 1976, Rau'Shee Warren was only the second boxer to take part in the Olympics twice for the USA.

He then rose to bantamweight and took part in the US Championships in 2009, where he was eliminated this time with a bronze medal against Jessie Magdaleno (19: 19+). Then he switched back to flyweight. In 2010 he won the US championships and the National Golden Gloves with victorious fights against David Sandoval, Gary Russell, Adam Lopez, Miguel Cartagena, Steven Ortiz, Thomas Huitt-Johnson, Oscar Cantu and Leroy Davila.

In 2011 he won against Shawn Simpson, Stephon Young, John Franklin and again Shawn Simpson the US qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , making him the first boxer in US sports history to take part in the Olympic Games for the third time. Before that, he won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Baku , after reaching the semi-finals against Heorhij Tschyhajew , Rey Saludar and Khalid Yafai and losing to the Russian Michail Alojan . At the Olympic Games in 2012 he lost in the first fight just 18:19 against the French Nordine Oubaali .

From 2010 to 2012 he boxed for the Los Angeles Matadors in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) and remained undefeated in his seven fights. He finished his amateur career with 318 wins and 15 losses.

Professional career

Rau'Shee Warren made his professional debut on November 9, 2012 against Luis Rivera. He remained unbeaten in 13 other fights and boxed against Juan Carlos Payano for the IBO and WBA bantamweight titles on August 2, 2015 . Warren had his opponent on the ground in the twelfth round, but lost the fight by split point decision, which also contributed two point deductions in the ninth round.

The rematch, and thus the two world titles, was won by Rau'Shee Warren on June 18, 2016 in the UIC Pavilion in Chicago by a majority decision of the judges. In his first defense of the title, however, he lost the belt on February 10, 2017 through a split decision to the Kazakhs Shanat Shaqijanow , although he had it down twice. In July 2017, he won unanimously against McJoe Arroyo .

On January 19, 2019, he lost in the fight for the WBC World Bantamweight Championship against Nordine Oubaali .
