The village of Reckenthal is located in the north of the western forest part of the Nassau nature park on a hill to the right of the Gelbach valley about four kilometers southeast of downtown Montabaur. In the north of Reckenthal lies the Montabaur district of Wirzenborn , in the east the local community Heilberscheid , in the south the district Bladernheim and in the west the local community Holler . history

Middle Ages and Electoral Trier times

Reckenthal lies in the area of the Bannes and parish of Humbach (later called Montabaur), which was first described between 930 and 959 . The first written mention of the place under the name "Reckindal" took place in 1383, when the furnishing of an altar in the parish church of Montabaur was described.

According to a directory from 1548, the three localities Bladernheim , Reckenthal ( Reckendal ) and Wirzenborn ( Wirzendal ) formed a "colliery" (administrative district) of the Electorate of Trier Montabaur . The management of "mine" was one of Montabaurer bailiff used Heimburger transmitted. The three villages together had 19 fireplaces ( courtyards ). The St. Florin Abbey in Koblenz had to give six Malter oats a year. Between Reckenthal and Bladernheim was a mill that was called "Hannes Muel". In the Trier fire book of 1563 , eight fireplaces are given for Reckenthal. In 1684 there were also eight, six Trier and three Nassau subjects (families) were counted.

In 1786 Reckenthal had 62 inhabitants.

Nassau and Prussian times

Until the beginning of the 19th century, Reckenthal belonged to the right bank of the Rhine from Kurtrier , which was assigned to the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg in 1803 as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . After the formation of the Rhine Confederation , Reckenthal belonged to the Duchy of Nassau from 1806 . Under the Nassau administration, Reckenthal was assigned to the Nassau Office of Montabaur and until 1815 to the administrative district of Ehrenbreitstein, then to the administrative district of Wiesbaden .

According to statistics from the Duchy of Nassau from 1843, the community of Reckenthal had 135 inhabitants who lived with 27 families in 22 houses. The residents were without exception Catholic.

In 1866 the Duchy of Nassau was annexed by Prussia . The community of Reckenthal became part of the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau in 1867 and belonged to the then newly formed Unterwesterwaldkreis . In 1946 the municipality of Reckenthal became part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Incorporation

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate municipal reform that began in the mid-1960s , the previously independent community of Reckenthal was incorporated into the city of Montabaur on April 22, 1972 with 121 inhabitants.

church

Reckenthal was always a branch of the parish of Montabaur. There was a small half-timbered chapel in the village, the origin of which is uncertain, but originated at the latest from the middle of the 18th century. In an entry in the school chronicle of the village from 1922, it is noted that a new bell was purchased as a replacement for the bell drawn in during World War I and that the old bell was from 1756. The chapel was used for prayer by the residents of Reckenthal; other services were not held in it. From 1898 to 1952 the miraculous image from the pilgrimage church in Wirzenborn was placed in the Reckenthaler chapel.

In place of the half-timbered chapel, today's Herz-Jesu-Kapelle was built in 1959/60.

school

At the beginning of the 19th century, a first school building was built in Reckenthal, which was shared with the neighboring communities of Bladernheim and Wirzenborn . New school buildings followed in 1929 and 1964. The children have been going to school in Montabaur since 1972. Reckenthal belongs to the school district of the Joseph Kehrein Elementary School.

Kurhotel Waldesruhe

The so-called “Spielmann's Kurhotel Waldesruhe” was a popular address for day trippers, especially in the first half of the 20th century, and has been closed for several years. It is located in the Gelbach Valley, about one kilometer northeast of Reckenthal, directly on the border with the Holler community .

In 2010, the question about the renovation of the hotel led to a small inquiry from the CDU state parliament member Ulla Schmidt to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. In the inquiry, reference was made to the "national political history" of the hotel, because the "Consultative State Assembly" under the leadership of Adolf Süsterhenn and the later Prime Minister of the state, Peter Altmeier , met in the hotel in 1947 to deliberate on the draft constitution of Rhineland-Palatinate. The Ministry of the Interior and for Sport rejected state funding for the renovation of the hotel and justified this among other things. a. with the fact that the relevant meetings of the “Constitutional Committee of the Mixed Commission for the Establishment of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate” took place in Koblenz and Bad Kreuznach.

District

The local district Reckenthal is identical to the same district that corresponds to the previous municipality of Reckenthal. The interests of the local district are represented by a local advisory board and a local director .

The town council consists of three members in the municipal election held on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the volunteer local Head as Chairman.

Janine Best became mayor of Horressen on August 28, 2019. Since there was no applicant in the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was elected by the local council in accordance with the municipal regulations. Best's predecessors since 2014 were Swantje Schatz and previously Christine Kraus.
