history

Around the year 1000, the Beringa region was located on the southeast edge of the Hainich , a center of settlement and administrative activities of that time. During the Saxon War , an uprising by Thuringian and Saxon nobles against King Henry IV , an important military road ran across the Große Harth . Not far from Reichenbach, the battle of Homburg an der Unstrut took place in 1075 , during which the majority of the villages and castles on the eastern edge of the Hainich were destroyed by the fighting in 1075 and plundered when the troops withdrew.

The place was first mentioned as Richenbac in 1160. The location Reichenbach is laid out as a medieval row village. The place is still dominated by agriculture today. In the 14th century it was one of the woad cultivation places . The Hardt Forest to the north was also important . The place was on the old escort road from Eisenach to Bad Langensalza. The field name Ziegenberg in the NE of the location goes back to an infirmary that was once there. Several devastations belong to the corridor of Reichenbach .

The local history was shaped by the noble family of the Lords of Wangenheim , Reichenbach still belongs to the Protestant parish of Wangenheim today. The oldest houses in the village are grouped around the small village church, a church building that was renovated in 1627 and had a Romanesque predecessor.

Reichenbach belonged to the district of Gotha from 1922 to 1952 , from the district reform in the GDR to the district of Bad Langensalza and since the district reform in Thuringia in 1994 to the Wartburg district . On July 1, 1999, membership in the Behringen administrative community ended and it was incorporated into Behringen , which became part of the Hörselberg-Hainich community on December 1, 2007.

In July 2007 395 people lived in Reichenbach. At the Waidig, which got its name from the former woad cultivation , there is a soccer field, a children's playground, a volleyball court and the former youth club. The youngest residents of the districts Craula, Tüngeda and Reichenbach attend the “Pusteblume” kindergarten in Reichenbach together.

License Plate

After reunification, the license plates of the Langensalza district with the abbreviation LSZ were issued for motor vehicles . With the incorporation of the Reichenbach community into the newly founded Wartburg district on July 1, 1994, until December 31, 1994 , it was possible to obtain a license plate with the abbreviation ESA , the former Eisenach district.
