Richard "Rich" Clune (born April 25, 1987 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League since October 2015 and for their farm team , the Toronto Marlies , in the American Hockey League plays on the left winger position.

Career

Richard Clune began his career in 2003 with the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League and was active for the team for three years. He got 103 points in 191 games. Clune was selected by the Dallas Stars in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in 71st position, for which he never appeared. The 2006/07 season he spent with the Barrie Colts in the OHL and ran in a game for the Iowa Stars , a farm team of the Dallas Stars on. This was followed by more games with the Iowa Stars and the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL .

For the 2008/09 season he was sold to the Los Angeles Kings and sent to the American Hockey League to the Manchester Monarchs . He also spent most of the 2009/10 season with the Monarchs, making his NHL debut for the Los Angeles Kings in between. Because of the shortened 2012/13 season , it was announced on January 15, 2013 that Clune was moving to the Nashville Predators , who had previously selected the Canadian from the waiver list . After the 2014/15 season, the Predators bought him out of his remaining contract year (buy-out) , so that Clune was henceforth looking for a new employer. He found this in July in the Toronto Marlies from the AHL, where he also signed a contract with the NHL cooperation team, the Toronto Maple Leafs , in October . With the Marlies he won the Calder Cup at the end of the 2017/18 season .

International

Clune represented his homeland in the junior division at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2004 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2004 and the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 . He won with the maple leaves in the World Cup tournament the silver medal and in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament gold medal. In addition, he played a key role in winning the gold medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge with the tournament record of nine assists .
