Richard Král (born May 16, 1970 in Pardubice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who was active for many years for HC Oceláři Třinec and BK Mladá Boleslav in the Czech extra league. Most recently he played for four years for the Polish club JKH GKS Jastrzębie in the Ekstraliga .
Career
Richard Král began his career in the Tesla Pardubice youth team and went through all of the youth teams there. For Tesla's professional team, he made his debut in the top division of Czechoslovakia, the 1st division, during the season 1988/89 . At the end of the season, Tesla Pardubice won the Czechoslovak Championship and Král completed a total of three appearances in the season. In the following years he established himself within the team and scored 34 scorer points in 33 games in the last season of the first division, the 1992/93 season. In the first season of the newly founded Extraliga, his club, renamed HC Pardubice, won the runner-up. Král contributed 33 goals to this success, with which he also won the league's top scorer's crown.
In 1995 Richard Král moved to Wiener EV , but returned four games to the Czech Republic and was signed by HC Železárny Třinec . In the following ten seasons Král was exclusively in Třinec under contract and in 1997 was again Czech runner-up with this club . In addition, he was twice top scorer in the Extraliga and twice best assists. On October 28, 2001 he scored his 250th goal in the Extraliga against HC Litvínov . After ten years in Třinec, Král decided in 2005 to move to HC Hamé Zlín , where he played until 2006. The 2006/07 season he began at HC Lasselsberger Plzeň , before he was signed by BK Mladá Boleslav , who was then playing in the second-class first division . Richard Král was captain at BK Mladá Boleslav between 2006 and 2010 .
At the end of the 2007/08 season he and his new team were promoted to the Extraliga, where the club has been playing ever since. Král scored 18 points in 15 playoff games, which also made him the top scorer in the first division.
Between 2010 and 2014 he was active for the JKH GKS Jastrzębie in the Polish Ekstraliga . In March 2014, he ended his career and became a youth coach at his home club.
International
Richard Král was part of the extended squad of the Czechoslovak national team in the early 1990s , but was not used in any major tournament. In 1994 he was initially nominated for the 1994 World Cup , but was eliminated from the squad shortly before the tournament. Out of annoyance at this cut in the squad, he refused any invitations to national team games in the following years.
It was not until 2002 that he played again for his national team in two tournaments on the Euro Hockey Tour .
