Richard von Conta (General, 1821)

Karl Richard von Conta (born July 4, 1821 in Weimar , † September 28, 1895 in Arnstadt ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the president of the regional directorate in Weimar, Karl von Conta, and his wife Friederike, née Weiß (1785–1842). His older brother Bernhard also embarked on a military career and made it up to lieutenant general .

Military career

After his upbringing and instruction in his parents' house, Conta joined the Guard Reserve Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on May 21, 1839 as a flag junior . Here he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on October 20, 1839 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on February 12, 1842 . From January 30, 1843 to March 21, 1845 Conta of the 1st Company of the 32nd Infantry Regiment was aggregated in Erfurt and was then transferred to the 21st Infantry Regiment in Stargard . For one year he was commanded from October 1, 1847 to the 2nd Combined Reserve Battalion. On June 4, 1854, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the 21st Landwehr Regiment in Konitz as Prime Lieutenant . Promoted to captain on May 31, 1859 , Conta was commanded to the 21st Combined Infantry Regiment in May 1860 and transferred to the 8th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 61 on July 1, 1860 . Here he rose to the position of chief of the 3rd company on September 19, 1860 . Conta took part with the regiment in the war against Austria in 1866 and was wounded by a shot in the right forearm during the battle of Königgrätz . For his achievements he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords.

Promoted to major on February 9, 1867 , Conta was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion on November 15, 1867. He led his battalion in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battle of Gravelotte and the sieges of Metz and Paris . Conta also took part in the battles at Dijon and Messigny-et-Vantoux . On March 2, 1871, he was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

After the Peace of Frankfurt he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1872 . In position à la suite of his regiment, Conta was appointed commander of Küstrin on April 15, 1873 . He gave up this post on August 21, 1874, was then commander of Thorn and, as such, was promoted to colonel on September 19, 1874 . In recognition of his services, Conta received the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on September 9, 1879 . He was also the holder of the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with swords on the ring as well as the order of St. Anna III. Class. Wilhelm I gave Conta on 12 June 1880 the character as a major general before becoming a year later with board for disposition was made. He is buried in the historical cemetery in Weimar .

family

Conta had married on May 22, 1852 in Soykowo with Coelestine von Kahlden (1832-1893). The following children were born from the marriage:
