Rickie Fowler (Rick Yutaka Fowler; born December 13, 1988 in Murrieta , California ) is an American professional golfer .
Life
Fowler was born to Lynn and Rod Fowler and has a younger sister named Taylor. His mother is half-Japanese, half- Diné . In his childhood, in addition to playing golf, he pursued the hobby of motocross driving, but he quit after breaking his foot three times in an accident at the age of 14. From then on, Fowler decided to concentrate completely on golf.
Amateur career
Rickie Fowler began his successful amateur career in 2005 at the Western Junior, the oldest junior golf tournament in the USA, where he took first place with 272 strokes, ahead of David Yujin Chung (273).
He had further successes in 2007 at the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament and the Players Amateur Championships.
At the US Open 2008 he made the cut as one of three amateurs and reached the shared 60th place. In the same year he was able to defend the title at the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament.
In 2009 he was appointed to the team for the Walker Cup for the second time . Fowler won all four games in which he was used.
Professional career
After the Walker Cup, Fowler decided to pursue a career as a professional golfer. He played his first professional tournament in September 2009 at the Albertons Boise Open on the Nationwide Tour . In the same month he signed long-term advertising contracts for the equipment companies Titleist and Puma .
He made his debut on the PGA TOUR in October 2009 at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, where he finished seventh in the top 10. A week later at the Frys.com Open he just missed his first tournament win , he lost to Troy Matteson in the jump-off and ended up tied for second place.
In December 2009, with a shared 15th place at the Q-School qualification tournament, he won a PGA Tour Card 2010, which means that he has the right to start almost all major golf tournaments of the PGA TOUR .
Other top placements came at the Farmers Insurance Open (January 2010, shared fifth place), the Waste Management Phoenix Open (February 2010, second place), the Verizon Heritage (April 2010, shared eighth place), the Quail Hollow Championship (May 2010, sixth place), the Memorial Tournament (June 2010, second place) and the Frys.com Open (October 2010, fourth place). At the end of the 2010 season, Fowler was named Rookie of the Year by the PGA Tour .
On September 7, 2010, Captain Corey Pavin gave him one of four wildcards for the US team for the 2010 Ryder Cup . In three matches he won a point for the US team.
In October 2011, Fowler won his first professional golfer win at the Kolon Korea Open, a tournament on the OneAsia Tour. In May 2012, Rickie Fowler won a tournament on the PGA Tour for the first time in his career. He won the Wells Fargo Championship by beating Rory McIlroy and DA Points in the jump-off . He achieved the greatest success of his career to date when he won The PLAYERS Championship in 2015, where he again prevailed in the jump-off. This time against Sergio García and Kevin Kisner.
