Riku Hahl (born November 1, 1980 in Hämeenlinna ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player on the position of the center . In the National Hockey League he played for the Colorado Avalanche , in the Finnish Liiga for HPK Hämeenlinna and Jokerit and for HC Davos , Frölunda HC and Timrå IK .
Career
Riku Hahl was selected at the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the sixth round at a total of 183rd position by the Colorado Avalanche , but the Finn played two more seasons at his home club HPK Hämeenlinna in the Finnish SM-liiga . Riku Hahl made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2001/02 season . However, the attacker spent most of the season with the Avalanche's farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League . The Finn completed two more seasons for the Denver franchise before rejoining HPK Hämeenlinna during the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season .
Hahl stayed in Europe after the season, despite receiving a contract offer from the Avalanche. He signed a one-year contract with the Swiss club HC Davos . He then went to Sweden and played for Timrå IK in the Elitserien for two seasons . On July 10, 2008, the striker signed a contract with Frölunda HC . In his first year with the team from Gothenburg it only failed in the semi-finals of the 2008/09 season at HV 71 Jönköping . On February 25, 2009, the striker extended his expiring contract with Frölunda for another year. In May 2011 the Finn returned to his homeland and signed a contract with Jokerit from the SM-liiga.
Hahl completed four seasons at Jokerit, including one season in the multinational KHL , before returning to his home club in July 2015 and signing a two-year contract there.
He ended his career in 2016.
International
The defensive center played in a total of seven international tournaments for Finland . He won the bronze medal at the 2006 and 2008 World Championships . At the World Cup of Hockey 2004 he and his team took second place.
