Riley D. Cote (* 16th March 1982 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player and current - trainer , who during his playing career between 1998 and 2010 among other 159 games for the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League on the Has contested the left winger's position . Since the end of his career, Cote has been employed as a coach in the Philadelphia Flyers franchise and has been an assistant coach for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the American Hockey League since summer 2014.
Career
Riley Cote began his career with the Prince Albert Raiders in 1998 . He played with the team for a total of four years in the Western Hockey League . Although he was never selected in an NHL Entry Draft , the Toronto Maple Leafs gave the Canadian in 2002 the opportunity to participate in the NHL team's training camp. There the attacker managed to recommend himself and received a one-year contract with the then farm team of the Maple Leafs from the Central Hockey League , the Memphis RiverKings . In the 2002/03 season Cote was also allowed to play six times for the higher-playing St. John's Maple Leafs from the American Hockey League . His contract with the Leafs was not renewed, so Cote signed a contract with the Syracuse Crunch , the farm team of the Columbus Blue Jackets , from the AHL. He then took part in the Blue Jackets training camp. There he could not assert himself, so he played for Syracuse again. With an eye injury, Cote ended up spending much of the season with Syracuse's ECHL farm team, the Dayton Bombers .
For the 2004/05 season , Cote received a trial contract with the Philadelphia Phantoms , the Philadelphia Flyers ' farm team , and eventually a two-way contract during the season. With his new team he won the Calder Cup on the first attempt . Shortly after the end of the season, he was given a full-time contract with the Phantoms. After he had already participated in two training camps of the Flyers in 2005 and 2006, Cote received a two-way contract with the NHL club for the 2006/07 season . Towards the end of the season he made his debut in the National Hockey League . On June 2, 2008, Cote received a new three-year contract from the Flyers.
In early August 2010, at the age of 28, Cote announced his retirement from professional ice hockey. However, he was further involved in the organization of the Philadelphia Flyers and was initially for four years assistant coach of the Adirondack Phantoms in the AHL. Since summer 2014 Riley Cote has been the assistant coach of the successor team Lehigh Valley Phantoms .
