Robert Chancel

Robert Chancel (born July 10, 1924 in Salers , † January 21, 2018 in Colmar ) was a French racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Robert Chancel was the brother of Pierre Chancel , like him active as a racing driver and like him mainly in small-displacement classes at the start. He was a works driver for Panhard and Monopole in the 1950s and competed five times in the Le Mans 24-hour race in that decade . His best finish in this long distance race he reached on his debut race 1952 . With partner Charles Plantivaux , he finished twelfth overall on a works Panhard Dyna X86 Coupe . This final rank was the second place in the racing class for sports cars up to 1.1 liters displacement.

He finished the 1953 Roubaix Grand Prix in third place behind René Bonnet in the DB HBR and Roberto Mieres in the Gordini T15S 1.5 .
