Robert La Caze (born February 26, 1917 in Paris , † July 1, 2015 in Le Cannet ) was a French racing driver .

Career

Although French, La Caze spent his entire racing career in North Africa and drove for many years with a Moroccan racing license. La Caze competed in road and circuit races, and he also competed in rallies . Racing cars from Renault , Lancia and Delahaye were used . In 1954 he won the international Morocco rally in a Simca and in 1957 drove a factory Gordini at the 24 Hours of Le Mans .

When a race for the automobile world championship was held in Morocco in 1958 , La Caze received an invitation to take part in the race. With a Formula 2 - Cooper T45 La Caze third in the standings of the Formula 2 car and 14 in the overall standings was.

After the death of Paul Pietsch , Robert La Caze was the oldest Formula 1 racing driver. He was followed by André Guelfi .
