Roberts Jekimovs (born November 11, 1989 in Riga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Frederikshavn White Hawks in the Danish Metal Ligaen since 2017 .
Career
Roberts Jekimovs began his career at HK Riga in 2000 , for whom he played in the Latvian U18 ice hockey league in the 2004/05 season. He then moved to SK Riga 20 , a team that was mainly composed of players from the Latvian U20 selection. He spent the next three years at SK Riga 20 and played in the Latvian ice hockey league . He developed into a dangerous attacker, so that he scored 14 goals and 12 assists in 48 games in the 2006/07 season. In the following season, in which his club played as SK LSPA / Riga due to a new sponsor , Jekimovs even scored 19 goals and 34 assists, making him the top goalscorer and second best scorer of his team.
Due to the performances shown, Jekimovs was included in the U20 squad of Brynäs IF in summer 2008 , for which he completed 45 games in the Superelit , in which he scored ten goals and eleven assists. The Brynäs IF juniors won the Swedish Junior Championship at the end of the season.
During the KHL Junior Draft 2009 Dinamo Riga secured the KHL rights to Jekimovs. He then returned to Latvia in the summer of 2009 and got a contract with Dinamo, but played exclusively for their farm team , the Dinamo Juniors Riga in the Belarusian extra league . In January 2010 he moved to the Finnish second division team Jokipojat . There he was able to convince, especially in the 2010/11 season , when he scored 43 scorer points in 47 games, including 24 goals. For the following season he was committed by SaiPa Lappeenranta from the SM-liiga .
Jekimovs is considered a tech-savvy player with a powerful shot who has yet to improve his defensive play.
In autumn 2014 he did a try-out with the EC Graz 99ers , but did not receive a contract. At the end of December 2014, he then moved to Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast , but only completed two KHL games for this club. He also only played two games for HK Prizma Riga from the Latvian league , before moving to the Danish Metal Ligaen in September 2015 , where he spent one season each with IC Gentofte and the Herning Blue Fox . Since 2017 he has been playing for their league rival Frederikshavn White Hawks .
International
Early in his career, Jekimovs represented his home country in international tournaments. He took part in two U18 and three U20 world championships . He made it to the U18 World Cup in 2006 as well as in the U20 World Cup in 2008 , when he was the second best preparer behind his compatriot Kaspars Daugavi gemeinsamš , together with the French Stéphane Da Costa and the Hungarian Nikandrosz Galanisz , with the respective Latvian junior selection from Division I to the top division.
In 2009 he was a permanent member of the Latvian national team and took part in the 2009 World Cup when he was 19 . Also played for the Latvians at the 2013 World Cup . He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Sochi 2014 .
