Rohrdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1285. It developed around a castle. In 1309 the entire town came into the possession of the Order of St. John, after the latter had already acquired property there. Rohrdorf formed its own commander and until 1806 belonged to the Grand Priory of Germany of the Order of Malta (as the Order of St. John called itself after 1524) with its seat in Heitersheim (in Breisgau).

politics

Municipal council

The council was established in the local elections on June 7, 2009, seven men and three women, supplemented by the directly elected mayor, who heads the committee. After the 2014 local elections, the local council consists of 10 members, two women and eight men.

mayor

On February 1, 2009 Joachim Flik was confirmed for a third term of office with 98 percent of the valid votes cast. In February 2017, Flik was confirmed for a fourth term with 94.9% of the vote.

Administrative community

Rohrdorf belongs with the city of Haiterbach and the municipality of Ebhausen to the agreed administrative community of the city of Nagold .

Religions

There has been a specialty in Rohrdorf since 1568: the Protestant and Roman Catholic parishes use the Johanneskirche jointly ( simultaneous church ). With the introduction of the Reformation, the services were initially staggered in the shared church. Because this caused problems, the commander was ordered to expand the church. Since then, the rear, eastern part with the choir has been used by the Catholic church, while the front, western part, expanded by an extension at an obtuse angle, has been used by the Protestant parish. This regulation was agreed in a contract between the then Catholic Commander of the Order of St. John / Maltese with the Protestant majority of the town and is still valid today.

The Protestant community belongs to the Calw-Nagold church district in the Evangelical State Church in Württemberg . The Catholics belong to the pastoral care unit Oberes Nagoldtal in the deanery of Calw . The leading pastor is Holger Winterholer. The New Apostolic Church is also represented in the village .

Economy and Infrastructure

Rohrdorf is a model community within the framework of the rural area development program in Baden-Württemberg , with which the attractiveness of small rural communities is to be increased.

Culture and sights

The old school, built in the early 20th century, is a listed building . The commandery, built around 1430, in which the town hall and the Johanneskirche of the two parishes are located, is also worth seeing.
