Roseann "Rosie" O'Donnell (born March 21, 1962 in Commack , Long Island , New York ) is an American actress , presenter and television producer .

Childhood and youth

Rosie O'Donnell is one of five children of an Irish family. Her brother is the politician Daniel J. O'Donnell . Since her mother died when she was just ten years old, she says she spent most of her childhood in front of the television. This should have a major impact on their professional development. After graduating from high school, she began studying at Boston University , which she dropped out after a year.

Career

In 1996 O'Donnell received her own talk show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show , in which she welcomed world-famous star guests such as George Clooney and Prince in an original way. On the 348th Show, first broadcast on February 25, 1998, she played drums with Chaka Khan . O'Donnell caused a stir in 1999 when she questioned Tom Selleck critically about gun use and possession in the United States because of his membership in the National Rifle Association (NRA). The show ran until 2002.

Parallel to her show career, she appeared in movies and played a supporting role in Sleepless in Seattle alongside Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan . She is also a frequent guest star on television series. So she appeared in Ally McBeal , Will & Grace and Queer as Folk . She also had several supporting roles in the series The Nanny , where she played the taxi driver Cozette and herself, among others. From 2006 to 2008 she played in four episodes of the hit series Nip / Tuck .

In addition to her work as an actress and presenter, she is also the producer of television shows, such as the program for the presentation of the Tony Awards . From 2006 to 2007 she was a co-host on the ABC talk show The View . On October 10, 2011, her talk show, The Rosie Show , started on the television channel OWN ( Oprah Winfrey Network) , but it was discontinued in March 2012 due to poor ratings after 52 episodes.

Private life

Rosie O'Donnell was married to Kelli Carpenter from 2004 to 2007, with whom she has four children. From 2012 to 2015 she was married to Michelle Rounds, with whom she adopted a daughter in 2013.

O'Donnell is close friends with the pop singer and actress Madonna , with whom she shot the film A Class of Their Own.
