The ЗИЛ-2906 , (German transcription SIL-2906 , conventional, but in particular also internationally ZIL-2906 ) also is Шнекоход ( Schneckochod , approximately screw locomotion ) called amphibious vehicle of Lichatschowwerks . The chassis of the ЗИЛ-2906 consists of a roughly 3.8 m long and 2.3 m wide boat-like, watertight metal tub to which a chassis made of two horizontal, lengthways, approx. 2.9 m long banjo bolts, each 860 mm Diameter is attached. The screws made of aluminum are attached to the front of the worm choke and connected to the motors on the back via a planetary gear and a three-speed gear with a switchable reduction. Each screw is driven by its own motor with its own gearbox. A single-plate dry clutch is used for power interruption . The engines mounted in the rear of the vehicle are four-cylinder V- Otto engines of the type МеМЗ-967 А, each of which has a displacement of around 1.2 l and generates 27 kW each. Two fuel tanks with a capacity of 67.5 l each ensure a range of almost 100 km. The ЗИЛ-2906 is suitable for driving on snow, swampy areas and other impassable terrain, it can transport loads with a mass of up to 420 kg.

The successor model ЗИЛ-29061 technically largely corresponds to the ЗИЛ-2906, but has different dimensions, a four-speed gearbox and two more powerful 1.5-liter engines from the Lada 2103 , which can be cold-started down to −40 ° C. It was built 20 times. The main purpose was to recover landed Soyuz capsules.
