Sagid Magomedowitsch Murtasalijew

Sagid Magomedowitsch Murtasalijew (born March 11, 1974 in Kisljar , Dagestani ASSR ) is a former Dagestani wrestler who competed for the Soviet Union , the CIS , Ukraine and Russia .

Career

Sagid Murtasalijew grew up in Kizlyar near Makhachkala , capital of Dagestan , where she started in 1988 with the rings . He later became a member of "Dynamo" Makhachkala and trained by coach Iman Mursar Aliyev to become an excellent freestyle wrestler. Another coach to whom he owed a lot was D. Mindorashvili. At the age of 16, starting for the Soviet Union , he won the welterweight class at an international wrestling tournament in Toledo / USA . At the Junior World Championships in 1992 in Cali / Colombia , starting for the CIS , he only finished 4th in the class up to 81 kg body weight.

In 1995 he made his senior debut at the European Championships in Freiburg im Üechtland / Switzerland , starting for the Ukraine . He started in the light heavyweight division and suffered a point defeat (1: 5) in a preliminary round from Macharbek Chadarzew , the multiple world champion and Olympic champion, but defeated the experienced Jozef Lohyňa from the Czech Republic in the battle for the bronze medal . At the world championship of the same year in Atlanta he was not as successful as in Freiburg i. Ü. and only came in 7th place.

The same placings as in 1995 reached Sagid in the 1996 Olympic year. First he finished 3rd again at the European Championships in Budapest , where he was inferior to the German Heiko Balz in the semifinals and then he only came to the for at the Olympic Games in Atlanta disappointing 7th place. At this event he had clearly defeated the former German world champion Arawat Sabejew , who later won the bronze medal, with 13: 3 points in a preliminary round match.

Since Sagid was no longer satisfied with his training conditions, he, who had started for the Ukraine until 1996, changed the association and joined the Russian. There the successful Georgian Dmitri Mindiaschwili became his trainer. As it turned out later, this collaboration was still very successful for Sagid.

First he paused at international championships in 1997, but returned to the international wrestling mat in 1998 more than ever before. In 1998 he was not used in an international championship because Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow dominated the light heavyweight division in Russia , but has already won several international wrestling tournaments.

In 1999 he became world champion in Ankara and in 2000 with a 4-1 final victory over Arawat Sabejew European champion in Budapest and, as the culmination of his career, Olympic champion in Sydney , both in the light heavyweight division.

In January 2002, Sagid Murtasalijew was gunned down by criminals in Makhachkala while leaving a bar with his fellow wrestlers Raswan Magomedow and Mondi Bykajew. While Bykaew was dead on the spot, Sagid Murtasalijew and Rasvan Magomedov got away with their lives seriously injured. The wrestling career of Sagid Murtasalijew, who has a degree from the Dagestani Pedagogical Institute, was thus over. He turned to politics and is now a member of the Dagestan Parliament for the Kislarsky region.
