Samuel Pack "Sam" Elliott (born August 9, 1944 in Sacramento , California ) is an American actor and television producer . He was best known for his distinctive voice, for example as a narrator in The Big Lebowski .

Life

Sam Elliott studied at Clark College in Vancouver , Washington State . He later appeared in a few plays . Elliott starred in the television series Cobra, Take Over, from 1970 to 1971 . He produced the television film Conagher (1991), for which he also wrote the screenplay and in which he played the lead role. He was for this role Film Award Globe Golden nominated, he also won the Western Heritage Award in three categories.

His work for film and television since the late 1960s includes around 100 productions. Elliott played in the movie character assassination - The Contender alongside Gary Oldman , Joan Allen and Jeff Bridges in the film We Were Soldiers alongside Mel Gibson . He was seen frequently in westerns .

His involvement in Bradley Cooper's musical film A Star Is Born earned Elliott the first Oscar nomination of his long career for Best Supporting Actor in 2019 .

He was dubbed in films by various German actors, including Reiner Schöne , z. B. in Hulk , The Golden Compass and Ghost Rider . In the film The Big Lebowski, Elliott is dubbed by Gunter Schoss .

Elliott has been married to actress and children's author Katharine Ross since 1984 and has one daughter.
