The district of San Pedro is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on December 16, 1907. It has an area of 727 km². The 2017 census counted 2,785 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3436, in 2007 it was 3317. The seat of the district administration is the 3097 m high village of San Pedro with 550 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro is located 8.5 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The district of San Pedro is located in the Peruvian western cordillera in the central south of the province of Lucanas. It extends along the east bank of the Río Acarí, which flows in a south-south-west direction . Its left tributary Río San Pedro limits the district to the north.
The district of San Pedro borders in the extreme southwest with the district Acarí ( province Caravelí ), in the northwest with the districts Santa Lucía , Saisa and San Cristóbal , in the north with the district Puquio , in the northeast with the district Chaviña and in the southeast with the district Sancos .
