Sandra María Jessen (born January 18, 1995 ) is an Icelandic soccer player .

Career

society

Jessen started her career in 2002 in the F-youth of Þór Akureyri .

In 2011 she moved to the first division team from Þór Akureyri, for which she made her debut on September 10, 2011 against KR Reykjavík . She made her international debut for Þór on September 28, 2011 in the UEFA Women's Champions League against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .

For the second half of the 2015/16 season , she moved to Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen . After eight games for Bayer Leverkusen in half a year, she returned to Iceland in early May 2016 , where she made her debut for Þór Akureyri on May 11, 2016 . On November 28, 2016, Jessen signed with Kolbotn IL in Norway , but decided to terminate the contract in January and signed a new one-year contract with Þór. This contract was terminated by Þór / KA on January 17, 2017. In 2019 she returned to Bayer Leverkusen.

National team

The attacking midfielder took part in the 2011 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Switzerland for the Icelandic U-17 . With the U-19 team, she survived the first qualifying round in September 2013, in the subsequent elite round of the U-19 European Championship 2014 , in which the Icelandic U-19 team were eliminated, she did not take part.

She was nominated for the Icelandic national team already during her junior playing time and made her debut in the senior national team in the European Championship qualifier on June 16, 2012 against the Hungarian women's national soccer team and scored the 3-0 final score with her first international goal. In March 2013, she took part for Iceland in the Algarve Cup 2013 and was used in the four games. After an international break of 16 months, during which she played for the U-19 team, she was only used again in September 2015 and from then on in all the senior national team's games except the game against Poland on February 14, 2016, including at the Algarve Cup 2016 , in which Iceland took third place.
