Sanlúcar de Barrameda is a city in the province of Cádiz in Andalusia (southern Spain). The city is located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River in the Atlantic Ocean.

Sanlúcar lives mainly from fishing and the production of sherry , especially manzanilla . The city is picturesque with its partly Moorish houses and villas. The port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda was the starting point for numerous expeditions in the early modern period: in 1498 Christopher Columbus on the third voyage to America, 1519 Ferdinand Magellan on the circumnavigation of the world.

Sanlucar with its Andalusian ambience is still relatively undiscovered by international tourism. The main square in the middle of the city with many cafes and restaurants, surrounded by palm trees, is worth seeing. The Coto de Doñana National Park begins on the opposite bank of the Guadalquivir, and boat tours from Sanlúcar are possible.

In Sanlúcar there is the castle of the Dukes of Medina-Sidonia , which has been owned by the family since 1297 and by Isabel Álvarez de Toledo , the 21st Duquesa de Medina Sidonia, with the family archive dating back to 1228 to the Fundación Casa Medina in 1990 Sidonia was introduced.
