SAPIENCY is a German Metal - band , which in 2009 Frankfurt was founded. The music of the six-piece band with two singers can be assigned to the style of Melodic Death Metal .

history

At the beginning of their careers, all members had years of experience in the metal scene. The guitarists Rene Ritzmann and Holger Wenck had previously played together in the bands Everfest and Bonneville and with the singer Lars Bittner in the band Force Trankill, which Bittner later left. After Force Trankill broke up, Ritzmann and Wenck decided at the beginning of 2009 to form the band Sapiency with Bittner, for which they brought bassist Jörg Beck. A few weeks later, drummer Axel Krumsiek and singer Sebastian Shreds joined them. After three months on March 10, 2009, the band played their first concert as a support band for Sonic Syndicate and Deathstars . At the end of April 2009 Axel Krumsiek left the band and was replaced on drums by Jan Heusel. In May 2009 Jörg Beck left the band, whose place was taken by Sebastian Fix, with whom Wenck had played in the band Traitors Gate many years ago.

At the end of 2009 the band went to Michael Heiliger's studio to record their first EP Mercy . It was published in February 2010 and the band sent it to various print and online magazines. Shortly afterwards, the SAOL label became aware of the band and signed them.

In the summer of 2010, Sapiency recorded her debut album with producer Kai Bender , with Raul Geisler doing the mastering . In October 2010 she played at the Metal Festival Mittel-Gründau together with Witchburner and Tito & Tarantula and on December 18, 2010 she was in the final of the Havanna Band Contest. The debut album Fate's End was released on November 11, 2010 by SAOL and received benevolent reviews in various magazines such as Rock Hard and Metal Hammer .

In March 2011, the band separated from their drummer, who was replaced by Kai Voss-Fels, who was already on drums in the trash combo US Dead Beat and the heavy rock band Gaspain. In May 2011 Sebastian Fix (bass) received an endorsement deal from Däesch Bass Guitars. On May 7, 2011, Sapiency reached the finals at the Phoenix Battle of the Bands band contest in Weinheim and played with greats such as Vicious Rumors and Uncle Tom Angelripper . In June 2011 followed a tour through Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands together with the Polish band Pathfinder and the British band Power Quest . In August 2011 she toured Germany as main support with the US band WASP .

At the end of November 2011, the band went to Kai Bender's studio again to record their second album Tomorrow . In January 2012 the singer Sebastian Shreds left the band during the studio recordings. Nevertheless, she played on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise ship in January 2012 and brought Krsto Balic on board as a shouter. Further appearances followed u. a. with the Swedish bands Dead by April and Engel . In the summer of 2012, Sapiency opened the Metalfest Loreley on the main stage and played at Ragnarock Open Air with Vader and Milking the Goatmachine as well as an appearance in the opening act of the German bands Cripper and Sodom .

The first single Free Within celebrated its video premiere on October 16, 2012 on the music channel iM1 and could also be seen on the program iM1 Rocks . The second album Tomorrow was released on March 15, 2013 by SAOL, which was also rated positively by various magazines. In May 2013 Sapiency was part of the “5 Days of Darkness” tour with three other German bands, which took them through five German cities. In the summer of 2013 several support shows followed with Killswitch Engage , Negator , Holy Moses and The Way of a Freedom . This was followed by a deal with Bluelines Backline Rental and a distribution deal with the US heavy metal label Eclipse Records . The video for the second single Unknown Enemy was released on January 7, 2014. From May 8th to 17th, 2014 the band went on a European tour with the Dutch band Chainsaw Disaster , which took them through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France. This was completed in 2014 with concerts in Germany, Austria and Slovenia, which included appearances at the Out & Loud Festival and the Metaldays Festival as well as concerts with Six Feet Under and Rage . In October 2014 there was an endorsement deal for Schecter Guitars . Shortly thereafter, she played as the opening act for Ektomorf .

On April 30, 2015, the band officially announced the separation from shouter Krsto Balic, who was replaced by Phil Heckel as a substitute singer in May 2015. She played with him at the Dong Open Air and the Rocken Rock & Metal Festival.

Music genre

As with most bands of the melodic death metal genre, the vocals alternate between guttural and clear vocals. The music is a mixture of aggressive death metal and traditional power metal . The band is stylistically close to Dark Tranquility , In Flames and Soilwork . The clear vocals are sometimes reminiscent of Blind Guardian and Pretty Maids . In contrast to most other bands in the genre, music and lyrics are not very depressive, but rather life-affirming and happy.
