history
Schönebegk was first mentioned in a document in 1527 with the spelling Schonbegk . The place name describes the location of the place on a beautiful stream , meaning the Vetschauer Mühlenfließ , which flows west of Schönebegk. The part of the name Schön was very popular in the Middle Ages to attract settlers. The Sorbian place name Wjaska means little village .
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a total of 169 inhabitants in the 1880s, of which 90 were Sorbs and 79 German, which corresponds to a Sorbian-speaking share of 53%.
After the Congress of Vienna , Niederlausitz passed to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . In 1816 new districts were formed there, and Schönebegk fell to the district of Calau during this district reform . On January 1, 1928, Schönebegk was incorporated into Vetschau. After the Second World War, Schönebegk was assigned as part of Vetschau to the Calau district , which was in the Cottbus district . After the fall of the Wall , the location was initially in the Calau district in Brandenburg . In the course of the Brandenburg district reform , Schönebegk came to the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district on December 6, 1993 . Schönebegk is now structurally connected to the central town of Vetschau and officially belongs to it.
