Scipione Lancellotti , also Scipione Lancelotti (* probably December 1527 in Rome , † June 2, 1598 ibid) was cardinal of the Roman Church . He was a member of the curia .

Life

He was the second of four children of Orazio Lancellotti, personal physician to Pope Julius II and his wife Antonina Aragonia. His brother Lancellotto later became Archbishop of Rossano . Lancellotti was the uncle of the later Cardinal Orazio Lancellotti . Other cardinals from the same family were Giulio Gabrielli the Elder , whose mother was born Lancellotti, and Filippo Lancellotti .

He studied at the University of Bologna , where he received his doctorate iuris utriusque in 1547 . Under Pope Paul III. he entered the service of the Curia .
