Sergejs Žoltoks ( Russian Сергей Иванович Жолток / Sergei Iwanowitsch Scholtok; born December 2, 1972 in Riga , Latvian SSR ; † November 3, 2004 in Minsk , Belarus ) was a Latvian ice hockey player who, during his active career between 1990 and 2004, among others 633 Games for the Boston Bruins , Ottawa Senators , Montréal Canadiens , Edmonton Oilers , Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators in theNational Hockey League has contested on the position of the center .
Career
Žoltoks started his career at Dinamo Riga . In the 1992 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Boston Bruins in the third round in 55th place. He then went to North America and played primarily on the farm team in Providence for the first three years. Almost failed, he moved to the IHL to Las Vegas Thunder and was able to convince there. Before the end of his second IHL season, he made the jump back into the NHL to the Ottawa Senators . The 1998/99 season he then denied with the Montreal Canadiens , who gave him in the third season to Edmonton. The journey continued after the end of the season, this time taking him to Minnesota. Even with the wild, he could not finish the third season and switched to the Nashville Predators .
Because of the lockout in North America, he played for HK Riga 2000 in his home country . Žoltoks had been suffering from physical complaints a long time ago, but after examinations the doctors declared him fit again. Žoltoks collapsed on November 3, 2004 during a game for his club Riga 2000 in the Belarusian capital Minsk and died a little later of a heart failure. He hadn't played at the time of his breakdown, but stood behind the gang and watched the game. He left a wife and two sons.
