Guo Shuang ( Chinese 郭 爽 , Pinyin Guō Shuǎng ; born February 26, 1986 in the Horqin district of the city of Tongliao , Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China ) is a former Chinese track cyclist and world champion.
Athletic career
In 2003, Guo Shuang became two-time world champion of the junior women in the sprint and in the 500 m time trial ; In 2004 she was able to repeat this success in the sprint. In the following years she achieved numerous podium places in World Cup races .
Her first major successes in the elite class were two third places in the Sprint and Keirin at the 2006 World Track Championships in Bordeaux and two first places in Sprint and Keirin at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha . At the UCI Track World Championships in 2007 in Palma , Guo Shang was two-time vice world champion in sprint and keirin. In 2009 she finally managed to win the Keirin World Championship. At the 2010 Asian Games , she won the gold medal in the sprint. At the UCI Track World Championships 2012 in Melbourne , Guo won the bronze medal in the team sprint, together with Gong Jinjie .
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Guo Shuang won the bronze medal in the keirin. For two years she had prepared for the competitions in front of a home crowd in the “World Cycling Center” of the Union Cycliste Internationale in Aigle . Four years later, at the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Guo and Gong won the silver medal in the team sprint after being put back in second place as winners of the final run due to a substitutional error.
At the UCI Track World Championships 2013 in Minsk , Guo and Gong Jinjie won the silver medal in the team sprint.
