Siegfried Mrotzek
Siegfried Mrotzek ; also Sigi Mrotzek (* 29. March 1930 in Stolp , Pomerania , † 2000 ) was a German writer and translator .
Life
Siegfried Mrotzek attended elementary school from 1936 and a middle school from 1940 to 1944 , which he had to drop out of because of the war. After the end of the Second World War , he lived as a farmhand on an East Prussian farm . He moved to West Germany and began an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic in Hamburg in 1947 . He completed his apprenticeship with the skilled worker examination to become a lathe operator . From 1951 to 1953 he carried out various activities for the British and American troops in Mönchengladbach and Kaiserslautern , and from 1954 to 1957 he worked as a lathe operator in Wetter on the Ruhr .
In 1957 Siegfried Mrotzek emigrated to Canada , where he again carried out various activities, including a. in railway construction and uranium mining . He temporarily belonged to the editorial staff of a German newspaper in Edmonton ( Alberta ) and toured Canada and the United States by hitchhiking . In 1961 he returned to Germany .
From 1961 to 1965 Mrotzek worked as a technical employee in Wetter an der Ruhr . From 1966 to 1969 he held in Amsterdam , where he Dutch learned and began Dutch authors to translate . In 1973 he returned to Germany and worked as a copywriter and freelance translator . He lived in Herdecke and from 1997 in Dragun ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).
Siegfried Mrotzek wrote short stories and epigrams and translated fiction for children, young people and adults as well as non-fiction books from Dutch and English into German . He was a member of the Association of German Writers . In 1988 the work "Then just with violence", translated by Mrotzek, was awarded the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize by Jan F. de Zanger .
