geography
Geographical location and traffic
Sörnzig is the westernmost part of the large community of Seelitz and the only part of Seelitz that lies west of the Zwickauer Mulde . Due to the geographical location between the Rochlitzer Berg in the west and the Zwickauer Mulde in the east, the place has only one access road in the direction of Rochlitz via the federal highway 175 . The neighboring town of Fischheim, which is also part of Seelitz, can only be reached by pedestrians via a suspension bridge. Via Porphyria leads over this .

history
Sörnzig was mentioned in 1208 under the name "Zorneske". Although Sörnzig, as an official village, belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Rochlitz until 1856 , it had certain obligations towards the Schönburg sovereignty of Wechselburg . This was u. a. the right of inheritance to keep a feudal horse and to do the footbridges to the Zwickauer Mulde. The rule of Wechselburg was also entitled to inheritance jurisdiction over the place. Ecclesiastically, the place has always been parish to Rochlitz. The offices were dissolved during the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony in the 19th century . As a result, Sörnzig came under the administration of the Rochlitz Court Office in 1856 and in 1875 under the newly established Rochlitz District Administration .
On July 1, 1950 Sörnzig was incorporated into Steudten . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Sörnzig was incorporated as a district of the municipality of Steudten into the Rochlitz district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon Rochlitz district from 1990 and was newly formed in 1994 District Mittweida and in 2008 in the District Central Saxony. With the incorporation of the municipality of Steudten into Seelitz, Sörnzig has been part of the greater municipality of Seelitz since January 1, 1994.
