Sportsman of the year 1955 (Germany)

The best German athletes of 1955 were honored on December 11th in Ludwigsburg . The election was organized for the 9th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). A total of 359 sports reporters and editors from all over Germany cast their votes. Each person entitled to vote was allowed to award 15 points (5 points for 1st place, 4 points for 2nd place, 3 points for 3rd place, 2 points for 4th place and 1 point for 5th place).

Show jumper Hans Günter Winkler was clearly “Sportsman of the Year”. Winkler turned down a special prize in the form of a motor scooter donated by Kreidler- Motoren-Werke, sponsors of the Ludwigsburg Riding Club, referring to the amateur status for participation in the 1956 Olympic Equestrian Games . Instead, it was given away to his teammate Inge Fellgiebel .

There was no separate evaluation of athletes, the best woman in the evaluation, roller skater Helene Kienzle , was named “Sportswoman of the Year”.

Sports philosopher Ernst Hornickel held the celebratory lecture on the topic: "Elite and mass, the two poles of modern sport".
