Sportsman of the year 1958 (Germany)
The best German athletes of 1958 were honored on December 14th in the Small Westphalia Hall in Dortmund . The election was organized for the 12th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). 455 German sports journalists (both from the Federal Republic of Germany and from the GDR ) took part in the election, placing show jumper Fritz Thiedemann in first place. Thiedemann received 2812 points and was named first by 108 journalists, just ahead of boxer Bubi Scholz . The best woman in the ranking was the athlete Marianne Werner in eleventh position , who was thus named Sportswoman of the Year. The national athletics team was honored as team of the year.

The second-best result among the women was achieved by roller and figure skater Marika Kilius , who was in 14th place with 443 votes, while figure skater Ina Bauer came in third best with 206 votes (in the overall ranking 24th).
