Sportsman of the year 1971 (Germany)
The athletes of the year 1971 in the Federal Republic of Germany were honored on December 17th in the Kurhaus Baden-Baden . The election was organized for the 25th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). The participation of 621 sports journalists, radio and television reporters set a new record for voting. The swimmer Hans Fassnacht was the first athlete ever to be honored as "Sportsman of the Year" for the third time in a row. The Belgian racing cyclist Eddy Merckx was named “World Sportsman of the Year” with the Baden-Baden Ring of Honor.
