Sportsman of the year 1957 (Germany)

The best German athletes of 1957 were honored on December 14th in the Rheinsaal of the Cologne exhibition center . The election was organized for the 11th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). 418 German sports journalists (both from the Federal Republic of Germany and from the GDR ) took part in the election, placing the athlete Manfred Germar in first place by a large margin . Germar received 1795 out of a possible 2090 points and was named first by 90 percent of those who voted. The best woman in the ranking was swimmer Wiltrud Urselmann in eleventh position , who was thus named Sportswoman of the Year. For the first time, the ISK also chose a team of the year, with the German soccer champion Borussia Dortmund prevailing.
