architecture
Exterior construction
The church is made of exposed brick . Only the window reveals and the bell storey of the tower are plastered and whitewashed. The exterior is structured by strong, stepped buttresses . A pointed arch portal is integrated into the Gothic vestibule on the south side . The windows were originally designed with ogival arches, but were rounded off in the course of the Baroque style. In the northern corner of the choir rises the largely undivided bell tower crowned by a pointed helmet.
inner space
The interior is divided into pillars on which the lancet caps of the barrel vault rest. The four-axle nave opens on the east side - mediated by a choir arch - into the retracted choir with a three-eighth end .
Ceiling paintings
The ceiling paintings were made in 1905 and are based on the Rococo style . They represent the sermon of John the Baptist in the nave and the baptism of Jesus in the choir . The smaller pictures on the side depict the evangelists in the nave and guardian angels in the choir .
Furnishing
- The high altar was created by Matthias Fackler in 1777 . The Assumption of Mary is depicted on the altar panel, the Trinity in the extract . The lateral figures of the church patron , John the Baptist and the Evangelist John, are works by Christian Jorhan the Elder . The sculptures above the passages depict Johannes Kreuz , the abbot of the St. Blasien Monastery on the left , and Johannes Nepomuk on the right .
- The side altars date from 1738. The holy family is depicted on the altar panel of the northern side altar, and Saint Sebastian on the image of the southern altar .
- The late Gothic baptismal font is marked with the year 1501.
- In addition to the coat of arms tombstone for Paulus Lampfritzheimer († 1511), numerous epitaphs from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved in the church .
