List of state theaters

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many significant publicly owned theaters are designated as state theaters, especially theaters, mostly multi-branch houses, of the federal states. The countries are the "state" meant in their name, often as successors to kingdoms and other historical local authorities.

Germany

For Germany the following are to be mentioned:

Baden-Württemberg

Bavaria

Berlin

Brandenburg

Hesse

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Lower Saxony

North Rhine-Westphalia

Rhineland-Palatinate

Saarland

Saxony

Thuringia

Theaters under public law ( KdöR ) or as GmbH are not referred to as state theaters in Germany if they are communal institutions, such as city theaters. The state theaters also fall into their own category.

The Nationaltheater Mannheim is a historical special case . It was founded by the Elector as a "standing stage" with a permanent ensemble in the succession of the courtly theater, so it was in state hands. But already in 1839 it was completely subordinated to the city's responsibility, making it the oldest municipal theater in the world today .

State theater - The constitution is only relevant for the contracts and remuneration of permanent or temporary employees of the technical or artistic house staff.
