Stephen Herbert Heinze (born January 30, 1970 in Lawrence , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 763 games for the Boston Bruins , Columbus Blue Jackets , Buffalo Sabers and Los Angeles during his active career between 1992 and 2003 Kings has played in the National Hockey League as the right winger .
Career
Heinze spent his junior years at Boston College between 1988 and 1991 , for whose ice hockey program he played with great success in Hockey East , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He won the division championship with college in 1990 when he formed a highly effective assault line with David Emma and Marty McInnis . The attacker no longer spent his actually last college year, the 1991/92 season, at college, but - like Emma and McInnis - was recruited by the US ice hockey association USA Hockey to prepare intensively for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , France .
After the end of the Winter Games, Heinze joined the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League , who had selected him in the third round in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft in 60th place. Heinze was an unrestricted regular player there for the next eight years. Only when the Bruins him before the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft left unprotected, he was appointed by the newly established franchise of the Columbus Blue Jackets selected. With the Blue Jackets Heinze played until March 2001, before he was given up for a third-round vote in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft for league rivals Buffalo Sabers . Since the Sabers did not renew his expiring contract after only 14 season and 13 play-off games, he moved to the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent for the next two years . After the 2002/03 season , in which he was long out due to a concussion , he ended his career at the age of 33.
International
In the junior area Heinze took part with his home country in the Junior World Championships in 1989 in Anchorage , where the Americans took fifth place. For the men's selection, Heinze spent almost the entire 1991/92 season in preparation for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France . There the Americans took fourth place. Heinze scored four points in eight tournament games. He then took part in the 2000 World Cup in Saint Petersburg , Russia .
