Storytelling (rap)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Storytelling is a sub-genre of rap .

The term stands for any type of narrative rap and was created to set this area apart from others, especially battle rap . In the early days of German hip-hop there was mostly storytelling. As other branches later developed, the term storytelling became more and more popular.

Storytelling often deals with life experience , social criticism , but also philosophical and political issues, but also with sex , drug trafficking and " gangsterism ", whereby the transition to gangsta rap is sometimes fluid. Storytelling can be self-reflective, but it can also reflect the experiences of others. Also, a text based on storytelling does not necessarily have to be completely true, it does not even have to contain the beginning of a true story. Exaggerations are also characteristic of storytelling in order to make the experience more interesting for the listener.
