Stuart Stupid - a family Sucks (Original title: Stuart Saves His Family ) is a comedy of Harold Ramis from the year 1995 , based on sketches of the television series Saturday Night Live is based. Al Franken , who also wrote the script, plays the well-known character Stuart Smalley from the series .

action

Stuart Smalley, student of the Twelve Steps Program , is challenged by the injustices of life. He loses his cable TV show and has to ask his manipulative and arrogant boss to give him back his job, rehabilitate his alcoholic father and drug addict brother Donnie, and also support his overweight mother and sister Jodie with their husbands' difficulties. Stuart is supported by his sponsors as he draws on his negative behaviors every time he faces these challenges.

Reviews

Roger Ebert said in the Chicago Sun-Times of April 12, 1995 that the Stuart Smalley skits were currently among the funniest of the series. Stuart Stupid has eliminated his doubts as to whether a complete film could be made out of them . The film is just as amusing as the skits and also contains “convincing” characters and an “irresistible” story.

Mick LaSalle, on the other hand, came to the conclusion in his review in the San Francisco Chronicle of April 12, 1995 that the film was a "misfire" - albeit one that was more interesting than many successes.

The lexicon of international film said: “Not unintelligent comedy with surprisingly sarcastic, but always human features. Also noteworthy is the main actor who, despite all the stylistic exaggeration, always remains realistic in terms of content. "

background

Filming took place in Illinois , California and Minnesota . The film flopped and grossed only $ 912,082 in US theaters.
