Summer Jam ( English for "Sommerspaß") is a song by the German dance project The Underdog Project , which originally appeared on July 24, 2000. The piece is the first single from their debut album It Doesn't Matter and has been re-released in various remix versions at irregular intervals since its first release.

Creation and artwork

The song was written by Stephan Browarczyk , Christoph Brüx , Toni Cottura , Vic Krishna , Shahin Moshirian and Craig Smart . Production took place under the direction of Cottura. The single was mixed and arranged by Pietro Bertini, Stefano Mattara and Luca Verzeletti. The song was released under the Loop Dance Constructions music label and distributed by Warner / Chappell Music Publishing .

A total of three different cover images appeared for Summer Jam . On the conventional cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - you can see a basketball player making a basket. A second version shows a woman taking a beach shower. Both cover pictures were designed by Marc Schilkowski. An Australian maxi single shows two men and two women plunging into a flood. This cover picture was designed by One of a Kind.

Publication and promotion

The first release of Summer Jam took place on July 24, 2000 in Germany. A short time later it was first published in Austria and Switzerland, and later in the same year it was published worldwide. In addition to the radio version, the German maxi single includes two remixes - and an a cappella version of Summer Jam , as well as the official music video, as B-side . On May 23, 2003 the piece was released worldwide under the title Summer Jam 2003 with the project name “The Underdog Project vs. The Sunclub “released in a new remix version. In the same year a winter version of the song was released, entitled Winter Jam . On July 30, 2010 another maxi single with four new remix versions of Summer Jam was released. The last single was released on August 5th, 2014. This is a remix by Chassio that was available for download. In addition, many different remix singles and EPs were released worldwide , all of which differ in the selection and number of their B-sides.

In order to promote the song, a live performance at the TMF Awards 2007 in Belgium followed.

The lyrics to Summer Jam are written in English, translated into German the title means something like "summer fun". The lyrics to the winter or Christmas version of Winter Jam can be translated as "winter fun". The music was written by Stephan Browarczyk, Christoph Brüx, Toni Cottura and Shahin Moshirian, the text by Cottura, Vic Krishna and Craig Smart. Musically, the song moves in the field of freestyle and pop music . The tempo is 130 beats per minute . The song is based on its refrain, it does not contain any real verses. In addition to the main chant of Krishna, the voice of Smart can be heard in the background. AJ Duncan on the keyboard and DJ Frank can be heard on the instruments.

The song includes a sample of Fiësta de los tamborileros by the band The Sunclub from 1997. Summer Jam is about a man who enjoys the summer nights to the fullest and meets his dream woman, with whom he experiences some activities. Music video

In the music video for Summer Jam , several scenes are shown alternately. One shows a woman in a blue bikini taking a shower. Another shows several young women standing on the beach promenade and looking at the water. Every now and then several athletes are shown playing or training basketball. The 2003 Summer Jam music video is exactly the same as the Summer Jam music video . The total length of the video is 3:36 minutes. The director was Patric Ullaeus . Although the original was only uploaded to YouTube in 2007, the video has over 11.1 million clicks (as of October 2019). The remix version has over 43.8 million views to date (as of October 2019).

The music video for Summer Jam (Eric Chase Edit) was in Miami ( Florida turned). You can see Eric Chase spending the day on Miami Beach and in the evening in downtown Miami. The total length of the video is 3:34 minutes. To date, the video has over 4.8 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019).

Diana Moes VandeHoef from the music website Allmusic rated the album It Doesn't Matter with two out of five stars. The song Summer Jam would say everything about the album, as the rest of the songs would be the same for you. The song became particularly popular in secondary schools (high schools) and universities. Summer Jam tells of "shiny tanned bodies" that shake together under the "same hot sun". The play was content not "deep", but the "muffled Techno - Beat " was "surprisingly pleasant".

Charts and chart placements

Summer Jam reached position three in the singles charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for seven weeks and in the charts for 17 weeks. In Austria the single reached position ten and was in the top 10 for a week and in the charts for ten weeks. In Switzerland the single reached position 17 in 18 chart weeks and position 92 in the United Kingdom in one chart week. In the annual singles charts in 2000, Summer Jam placed 25th in Germany and 90th in Switzerland. Summer Jam is the world's first chart success for the Underdog Project.

Summer Jam 2003 reached position 86 in the single charts in Germany and was in the charts for a total of two weeks. In Switzerland the single reached position 24 in eight chart weeks and in the United Kingdom position 14 in six chart weeks. The single also reached number one in Belgium (Flanders and Wallonia) and the Netherlands . Creation and publication

Summer Jam is a remake of the song of the same name from the Underdog Project by the German dance project RIO , in collaboration with the US singer and rapper U-Jean . The track is the fourth single from their third studio album Turn This Club Around . The single was mixed by Andres Ballinas, Manian , U-Jean and Yanou . It was produced by Manian and Yanou. On the cover of the maxi single you can see the artist name and the song title U-Jean am Strand.

The first release of Summer Jam took place July 27, 2012 as a download from the music labels Kontor Records and Zooland Records . The release as a physical single followed on October 7, 2012 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The maxi single was released as a 2-track single and contains, in addition to the radio version, a remix version of the song as a B-side.

Music video

The official music video premiered on May 27, 2012 on the Kontor Records YouTube channel . It starts with a young woman who emerges from the water of a swimming pool with a wet t-shirt and steps out. Then U-Jean is shown in different scenes at the beginning of the rap part. It can be seen together with young people who are out and about in a group on the beach, at parties or in the swimming pool. Directed by George Cifteli. The total length is 3:06 minutes. To date, the video has over 44 million views on YouTube (as of October 2019).

Creation and publication

In 2019, the German rapper Summer Cem sampled Summer Jam in his self-titled song Summer Cem . This is a collaboration with the German rapper Luciano , which was released as a streaming single on September 20, 2019. Summer Cem is based on the melody for Summer Jam and includes a new song text - in German - by Patrick Großmann (Luciano) and Cem Toraman (Summer Cem). The composition was revised by Joshua Allery ( Miksu ), Laurin Auth ( Macloud ) and Dominik Patrzek (Deats). The single was produced by Deats, Macloud and Miksu. The mastering was done under the direction of Yunus “Kingsize” Cimen. One day before the single was released, the accompanying music video premiered on YouTube. The video has a total length of 2:47 minutes and was directed by PLUG. To date, the video has over 8 million views on YouTube (as of December 2019).

Summer Cem reached position six in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks and in the top 100 for 13 weeks. The single reached position five in the German-language single charts . In Austria, Summer Cem also reached position six and stayed in the top 10 for one week and in the hit parade for ten weeks. In Switzerland, the single also reached sixth place and also stayed in the top 10 for one week and in the charts for eight weeks. In 2019, the single occupied position 92 in the German annual single charts .

Cem reached the German single charts for the 37th time, the charts in Austria for the 23rd time and the Swiss hit parade for the 17th time. For Luciano Summer Cem is the 43rd chart success in the German single charts as well as the 23rd in Switzerland and the 21st in Austria.
