Rishi Sunak MP (born May 12, 1980 in Southampton ) is a British politician . He belongs to the Conservative Party and has represented the constituency of Richmond (Yorks) in the House of Commons since the general election in 2015 . After the resignation of the British Finance Minister Sajid Javid , he took over on February 13, 2020.

family

His father was Yashvir family doctor and his mother Usha was a pharmacist who ran a pharmacy. His grandparents were born in Punjab and emigrated to Great Britain from East Africa in the 1960s. He is the oldest of three siblings and is a Hindu.

Sunak has been married to Akshata Murthy since August 2009, the daughter of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy . They met while studying at Stanford University and have two daughters.

Career

Sunak studied at Lincoln College (Oxford) and the Stanford Graduate School of Business . He then worked as an analyst for Goldman Sachs, among other things .

In the course of the British general election in 2015 , Sunak moved into the House of Commons as a member of parliament. It received 51.4% of the vote. In the British general election in 2017 , he was able to improve his result to 63.9%. In the UK general election in 2019 , Sunak only lost 0.3% of support.

Sunak supported the UK's withdrawal from the EU . During the UK COVID-19 pandemic , Sunak proposed giving all adults and children vouchers worth £ 500 and £ 250, respectively, to boost spending in economic sectors hardest hit by the crisis.
