The Suyo district is located in the Ayabaca province in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 1067 km². At the 2017 census , 11,801 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 11,051, in 2007 11,951. The administrative center is the 399 m high village of Suyo with 1104 inhabitants (as of 2017). Suyo is 35 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Ayabaca .
Geographical location
The Suyo district is located in the Western Cordillera of Peru . It extends over the northwest of the Ayabaca province. The Río Calvas and Río Macará rivers run west along the border with Ecuador. The Río Quiroz , left tributary of the Río Chira , crosses the southwest of the district.
The Suyo district borders on the Lancones district ( Sullana province ) in the west, Ecuador in the north, the Jililí district in the east, the Montero district in the south-east, the Paimas district in the south and the Las Lomas district in the south-west ( province Piura ).
