Türkvizyon Song Contest
The Türkvizyon Song Contest ( Turkish: Türkvizyon Türk Dünyası Şarkı Yarışması ), also known as the Turkvision Song Contest in English or simply Türkvizyon , was an annual competition that was founded by the Turkish music broadcaster TMB TV and was inspired by the format of the Eurovision Song Contest . The first edition took place in Eskişehir , Turkey , at the end of 2013 . The semifinals with all 24 participants took place on December 19th, the final on December 21st, 2013 with twelve participants. Countries and regions with Turkic languages and Turkic peoples and, since 2015, individual ethnic groups without a defined settlement area are allowed to take part in the competition. In 2016, the competition was postponed to the following year due to the attempted coup in Turkey and ultimately canceled entirely. Since then the Türkvizyon Song Contest has not been held.
format
Türkvizyon was an annual competition that took place in December and was created by the TÜRKSOY organization in cooperation with the Turkish music broadcaster TMB TV . Based on the similar format of the Eurovision Song Contest , the competition focused on the Turkic peoples from the participating countries and regions. All participants had to start in the semifinals. A juror in each country gave 1-10 points to every country other than their own. The twelve countries with the highest score reached the final in 2013. In 2014, when there were inconsistencies in the voting, a total of 15 of the 25 participants made it to the final. For 2015 it was decided to admit a total of 14 finalists. TÜRKSOY had confirmed that there were plans to introduce televoting in the future, which would have been difficult to implement due to the lack of primaries for Russian regions or areas that are not internationally recognized. In contrast to the Eurovision Song Contest, in which the winner carries out the next competition, the city with the title Turkish Capital of Culture was usually chosen as the venue for the Türkvizyon . 2015 was an exception, as the city of Mary in Turkmenistan would have been the venue instead of Istanbul as the 2015 Turkish Capital of Culture.
Attendees
Performers from countries and regions with Turkic languages and a large number of inhabitants belonging to one of the Turkic peoples , such as Crimea , Karachay-Cherkessia or Turkey, were allowed to take part. 32 countries or regions took part at least once, from Germany in Central Europe to Yakutia in the far northeast of Russia.
In 2015, a total of eleven participants withdrew from Russia as they were urged to end all cooperation with the organizer TÜRKSOY due to the ongoing tensions between Turkey and Russia.
