Taubenheim / Spree ( Upper Sorbian Hołbin ) together with the villages of Wehrsdorf and Sohland form the unitary community of Sohland on the Spree . It is located in Upper Lusatia in the Bautzen district and has local status .
location
Taubenheim / Spree is located in the Oberlausitzer Bergland , on the border with Northern Bohemia ( Czech Republic ). The village extends in the valley of the Spree , into which the Alte Graben and the Weißbach flow.

Taubenheim was created as a forest hoof village and was first mentioned in a document in 1345.
In 1392, the von Raussendorf family was enfeoffed by the Bohemian King Wenzel IV - Upper Lusatia was a neighboring country to the Bohemian crown - with the villages of Spremberg , Friedersdorf , Taubenheim and Sohland in the judicial district of Bautzen . On August 30, 1408, the sale of the property to Heinrich von Raussendorf was confirmed by King Wenzel.
After Taubenheim in 15./16. Century had different landlords, two manors were temporarily formed in the place, which were reunited by Maria Sidonia von Warnsdorf in 1693 and belonged to the von Zezschwitz family from 1730 to 1846 .
Taubenheim includes the districts of Grünhut , Hinterecke, Neutaubenheim , Schafberg and Wassergrund as well as the layers of Neue Schenke and Zimmerbeil.

The coat of arms of the Taubenheim community, like the coat of arms of the Sohland community, was created late and thus represents a typical artist's coat of arms. Here, two lovebirds are grouped around a "T", which is designed in the manner of a pillar of a half-timbered house .
Attractions
The place Taubenheim is known for its half-timbered houses and for its more than 30 sundials . The Lutheran church of the place is kept quite simple, nevertheless the place has a special meaning for the Lutheranism of the region, Taubenheim was one of the first places, in which the Reformation took place. It is noteworthy that the church, of which it is not known when it was built, is said to have been used as a Lutheran church since the early years. It is rather unlikely that it was built in this function, as the castle chapel in Torgau , consecrated in 1544, is considered the oldest new Lutheran church.

The village is somewhat peripheral in terms of transport infrastructure, as there is neither federal highway 96 nor a border crossing to the Czech Republic. However, the Dresden – Zittau railway line runs through Taubenheim and has a stop there . Between the Taubenheim (Spree) and Neusalza-Spremberg stations , the railway line runs through the Czech Republic over a length of around 900 m. Due to the location of the village, no major industrial settlements have yet been recorded.
