The Taubertal 100 is an ultramarathon that takes place regularly on the first weekend in October and runs mainly along the Taubertal Cycle Path. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful and fastest ultramarathons in the world, in which several best performances have already been achieved over the 100 mile distance - in which almost four marathon distances are run at 160.93 km .
history
The “Taubertal 100” ultramarathon has been held since 2014 on the first weekend in October. The initiator and organizer of the Taubertal 100 is Hubert Beck from Lauda-Königshofen . A 100-mile distance has existed since the fourth edition in 2017. In 2018, the fifth Taubertal 100 took place, in which 241 runners finished the race. In the process, two national records were unofficially undercut on the 100-mile distance and the world's second fastest time ever run by women was achieved.
The two 100 km ultra running classics " Bieler Lauftage " in Switzerland and the "Taubertal 100" in Germany agreed on a cooperation in 2020 and plan to hold the Biel-Taubertal Challenge annually in the future . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany , the "Taubertal 100" had to be canceled in October 2020.
route
Profile and characteristics
In four different distances (100 miles, 100, 71 and 50 km), the Ultra Marathon Tauber 100 respectively in Rothenburg Tauber (in Ansbach started) before the route mainly along the Taubertal cycle path through the Main-Tauber in fränkisch embossed North-east of Baden-Württemberg runs. The 100-mile run leads for around 161 kilometers from Rothenburg to Gemünden am Main in the Main-Spessart district , the 100-km run to Wertheim , the 71-km run to Tauberbischofsheim and the 50-km run to Bad Mergentheim . 50 km, 100 km and 100 miles have been awarded the IAU bronze label.
The point-to-point routes of the Taubertal 100 are officially measured but not suitable for the best list. The start and finish differ by more than 50% as the crow flies from the race distances. Records achieved on them over 50 km and 100 km are therefore not recognized according to IAAF rule 260.21 and can only be declared as a world or national best. The 100-mile distance will be an exception from 2019: After the destination point has been moved from the market square in Gemünden am Main to Adolphsbühl Castle in Adelsberg , all IAAF rules will be complied with.
There is a road marking every 500 meters, every kilometer is signposted and every turn is marked three times, at night with reflective tapes. At different checkpoints, a so-called cut-off time must be observed, which is the slowest specified time for the 100 mile run. Anyone who exceeds the cut-off time will be disqualified. Runners can qualify for the Taubertal 100 with the following proof of running from the previous year:
- up to 100 km: an ultra run , regardless of the distance or time, or a marathon run in under 5 hours.
- 100 miles: 100 km in under 13 hours.
- Altitude meters are counted with 6 min / 100 HM.
All runs start together on Saturday morning. The award ceremony for the 100, 71 and 50 km run takes place on Saturday evening in Wertheim Castle. The award ceremony for the 100-mile run will take place on Sunday noon in Gemünden am Main.

Remarks
-
↑ a b c d The point-to-point routes of the Taubertal 100 are officially measured, but not suitable for the best lists. Since the start and finish are more than 50% as the crow flies of the race distance, records achieved on the routes according to IAAF rule 260.21 are not officially recognized as national or world records and can only be declared as world or national bests.
The 100-mile distance will be an exception from 2019: after the destination point has been relocated from the market square in Gemünden am Main to Adolphsbühl Castle in Adelsberg, all IAAF rules will be complied with so that this route can be included in the list.
