The Absence is an American thrash and melodic death metal band from Tampa , Florida that was formed in 2002.
history
The band was founded in the spring of 2001 by guitarist Patrick Pintavalle and singer Jamie Stewart. Together they developed some songs and in 2002 they prepared for the first live concerts. In the fall, the group opened a concert in Atlanta for Mastodon . In spring 2003 guitarist Peter Joseph and drummer Jeramie Kling joined the band. Together they developed new songs and in February 2005 they reached a contract with Metal Blade Records . In the same year the band released their debut album From Your Grave on this label. For the next two years the band went on tour. In 2006 the band toured with groups like Dead to Fall , Ion Dissonance , Vader , Kataklysm , Grave , Nuclear Assault , Destruction , Through the Eyes of the Dead , Entombed , Dismember and Vivisect. In February and March 2007 the band went to Mana Studios with producer Jonas Kjellgren ( Scar Symmetry , Carnal Forge ) and the album Riders of the Plague was released that same year. Jonas Kjellgren was featured on the album as guest singer and guitarist, Scar Symmetry guitarist Per Nillson, Santiago Dobles (electric guitar, banjo ) and James Murphy could also be heard. Jonas Granvik ( Without Grief , Edge of Sanity ) also had some guest appearances as a singer. The album also featured a cover version of Testaments Into the Pit . A tour with Unmerciful , Sons of Azrael and Vital Remains followed in the summer . The band also appeared as the inaugural band for Metal Blade Records' 25th anniversary tour in September and October 2007, along with Cannibal Corpse , The Black Dahlia Murder , The Red Chord and Goatwhore . In early 2008, Justin Reynolds joined the band as the new drummer.
In 2010 the album Enemy Unbound was released on Metal Blade Records.

The band plays Melodic Death Metal with strong Thrash Metal influences. The music is compared to groups like Arch Enemy , Soilwork , In Flames and Dimension Zero .
