The Exotic Beatles is a compilation of unusual Beatles - cover versions . The first album in the four-part series was released in 1993, the last one in 2011.

The composition of the four albums differs fundamentally from conventional tribute albums , which are primarily about emphasizing the importance of the respective artist. The cover versions on The Exotic Beatles are partly reminiscent of the original versions only in a rudimentary manner or come from completely different cultures than the Beatles. The spectrum ranges from text recitations to police choirs to barking dogs. The pieces are enriched again and again by interview snippets from the Fab Four or other original sounds .

The makers of The Exotic Beatles emphasize in the booklet of the first part that they are not interested in particularly eccentric , but exotic interpretations. In addition to well-known artists such as Desmond Dekker and Caterina Valente there are completely unknown musicians. For example, the Brazilian rock band Os Vips , according to the booklet the “first, authentic punk band in Brazil”, or The Quests , “ Malaysia's answer to the Beatles”. Next to it are flamenco guitars , Indian sitars and a barrel organ . The compilation became known among enthusiasts in 1993 through the British radio DJ John Peel , who played numerous pieces in his shows.
