action

Darrin Hill, a slick but hapless New York recruiter, returns to his hometown in Georgia to take on his aunt's inheritance. But before Darrin can collect the money, he has to fulfill the last wish of his deceased aunt: set up a local choir and lead him to victory in the annual gospel competition.

He quickly finds out that his hometown is teeming with dazzling types, but none of whom can sing about. But then he meets Lilly, a pretty jazz singer with a heavenly voice. For Darrin it is the answer to his prayers ... if he can convince her of his good intentions and convince her to sing.

In the attempt to lead his “spiritual and colorful mixture of songs” to victory, he also realizes that his aunt left him far more than his legacy.

Reviews

“The music film, which moves in the dichotomy between the sacred and the profane, develops the unspectacular story almost delicately and presents the rousing music without a glamorous look. The show that the choir offers at the end reflects a deeply democratic understanding of ecclesiastical representation: everyone is welcome to take part in the divine miracle, because all musical styles are variations of the same spiritual approach to the world.
