Mike Epps
Michael Elliot "Mike" Epps (born November 18, 1970 in Indianapolis ) is an American actor , comedian and rapper . He became internationally known for the role of Day-Day in the film Next Friday , in which he plays alongside the rapper Ice Cube .
Life
As a child, Epps shuttled between Crenshaw and Gary. Growing up in Crenshaw with seven siblings and his mother, he was raised in Gary by his grandparents. As a teenager, he spent for a "match" with superglue four months in a juvenile detention center. At school, Epps was known as a class clown.
He has been married to Michelle McCain since July 2006, but is currently involved in a paternity dispute over a child born in 2007 to a Georgia woman .
Career
His career as a stand-up comedian began when he took part in a comedy competition in Indiana . The club owner recommended Epps to go to New York , where he should improve his skills in the comedy act theater . He followed the advice and moved to the city on the east coast at the age of 21.
He first drew attention to himself in an episode of the television series The Sopranos , in which he appeared as Jerome . That same year he met rapper Ice Cube on a cast for the film Next Friday , who hired him instead of Chris Tucker (who had canceled) for the role of Day-Day . This was Epp's first major role in a film and meant his breakthrough. In 2001 he was voice actor in the film Dr. Dolittle 2 and also starred in So High . A year later he was back in the role of Day-Day in the sequel to Next Friday , Friday After Next . He was later also involved in the film Fighting Temptations (2003) with Cuba Gooding junior and Beyoncé Knowles and played the role of LJ in the film Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) in the sequel to the film, Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) he is also there. He also has a brief appearance in Hancock , in the short sequence during the credits as a gangster.
On the 2011 EP Hell: The Sequel by Bad Meets Evil , Epps sings the refrain of "I'm On Everything".
