The Big Muppet Party is an American doll film from 1981. The comedy film is also known under the alternative titles The Big Muppet Party and The Big Muppet Crime .

Kermit, Gonzo and Fozzi Bear work as reporters for the Daily Chronicle . Unfortunately, they do not report the big theft of Lady Holidays jewelery, but rather that two identical twins work for their newspaper: Kermit and Fozzi. Not wanting to lose their job, they travel to London , England , for twelve US dollars , where they meet Lady Holiday and want to solve the case. In a possible interview, however, Lady Holiday is out of the house, so that Kermit thinks her receptionist Miss Piggy, a prevented model and superstar, is Lady Holiday. So Kermit invites her to the Dubonnet Club , where he wants to interview her. Instead, after a provocative dance by Miss Piggy, the real Lady Holiday has her necklace stolen from her neck. Gonzo photographs the real thief with Nicky, Lady Holiday's brother, but the photo is later destroyed, so there is no evidence whatsoever.
For Miss Piggy it gets even worse, because her admirer Kermit not only learns that she lied to him, but that she is now also used as a scapegoat for the thefts. At a fashion show where she stepped in as a model, the previously stolen necklace was smuggled into her, which is why she has to sit in jail for it. But Kermit and his friends not only want to help Miss Piggy, they also want to catch Nicky stealing the baseball diamond in the Mallory Gallery in flagranti . When Nicky and his three accomplices are about to steal the diamond, Kermit and his friends intervene to prevent this. But they are overwhelmed by Nicky. Only Miss Piggy, who broke out of prison earlier, can catch Nicky with the help of the police who were chasing her and convict him as a real criminal.

After its US theatrical release, the film grossed over $ 31.2 million at the box office. In Germany, the film was first broadcast on ProSieben on May 21, 1994 and released on VHS on September 22, 1994 under the title The Big Muppet-Krimi .
