The craziest rally in the world (original title: The Gumball Rally ) is the title of an action comedy . It was made in the USA in 1976 under the direction of the former stunt coordinator Charles Bail, who also produced the film and co-wrote the script. The plot is based on the events of the Cannonball race .
action
The businessman Michael Bannon organizes a secret and illegal street race from the east to the west coast of the USA . Participants gather in a garage in New York City to begin preparations for launch. In the meantime, LAPD Lieutenant Roscoe becomes aware of the planned race. The race begins despite Roscoe's attempts to prevent the start.
The film then deals with the experiences of the participating teams during the race and Roscoe's attempts to arrest the participants and prevent them from continuing.
The race finally ends with the arrival in California. In the final scene of the film, Bannon suggests another race that will lead the drivers back to New York.
production
In order to film the opening scenes in New York, some streets were closed on an early Sunday morning, including Broadway and Park Avenue . The duel between the Ferrari and the Cobra at the end of the film was taped on the Los Angeles River and the Queen Mary in Long Beach .
Although The World's Weirdest Rally is a low budget film , it was produced by First Artists . First Artists was originally founded with the aim of producing "sophisticated entertainment".
