Thomas Grimm (filmmaker)

Thomas Grimm (* 1954 in Aue ) is a German filmmaker and documentarist.

Life

Grimm studied philosophy and aesthetics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He graduated in 1982 with a diploma. From 1984 to 1986 he was a film editor at the State Film Documentation of the GDR Film Archive , and from 1987 he worked as a freelance filmmaker and author. From 1990 to 1991 he took over the management of the Church, Family and Social Affairs department in the German Television Broadcasting Corporation (DFF), and from 1992 to 1999 he was a member of the supervisory board of Fernsehen aus Berlin AG. In 1991 he became the founding head of the Documentation / Reports / Talks department at the ORB . As managing director of Zeitzeugen TV Film- und Fernsehproduktionen GmbH , he produces audiovisual documents on contemporary history under the motto “Remembrance as Responsibility”.

In 1987 he began to record contemporary witness interviews on video and film material. He recorded portraits of conversations with personalities such as Walter Markov , Hans Mayer , Wolfgang Harich , Walter Janka , Jürgen Kuczynski , Theo Pinkus , Freia Eisner , Heiner Müller , Erica Glaser-Wallach , Richard von Weizsäcker , Ulrich , Thomas and Lothar de Maizière , Stefan Heym , Wolf Jobst Siedler , Sarah Haffner , Hans Heinz Holz , Gerd Irrlitz, Christa and Gerhard Wolf , Günter Schabowski , Egon Krenz , Willi Sitte , Uwe Holmer , Margot Honecker , Hans Modrow , Markus Wolf , Inge and Walter Jens , Sebastian Kleinschmidt , André Leysen , Carl H. Hahn , Karin Balzer , Willi Holdorf , Lothar Claesges , Klaus Kinkel , Patricio Aylwin , Boris Snetkow , Arnold Julius, Walter Frankenstein and those who tell from your biographies of the century. Thomas Grimm lives in Berlin and in the Ore Mountains. There he supports the maintenance and expansion of the ridge trail .
