Thomas Herzog
Thomas Herzog (born August 3, 1941 in Munich ) is a German architect and scientist . His merits are based on the research and development of structural shells and materials for buildings using the prevailing climatic conditions and solar radiation as well as new types of buildings as a whole for different uses.
Life
Herzog studied from 1960 to 1965 and obtained his diploma from the Technical University of Munich . In the following years he worked for Professor Peter C. von Seidlein until 1969 . In 1971 he set up his own office. In 1972 he was at the University of Rome on Pneumatic structures doctorate .
Herzog's academic career began at the University of Stuttgart as a research assistant and lecturer. He became Germany's youngest architecture professor in 1973 at the Kassel University , now the University of Kassel . Further appointments were to the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1986 and to the Technical University of Munich in 1993 , where he retired in 2006 and received the honorary title Emeritus of Excellence in 2007 . Visiting professorships led him to Tsinghua University in Beijing in 2003 and in the same year he was Graham Professor at the University of Pennsylvania . In 2004 he was visiting professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen . In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ferrara.
Since 1982 Herzog has been working on various research and development projects for private and public clients.
